Vera
Natura is situated in the south of Spain, in the
district of Almeria, province Andalusia. |
|
|

The
village of Vera lies several kilometres from the coast
and has several supermarkets and on Saturday mornings
there is the general market on the streets of the old
town. |
|
|
The
fisher village of Garrucha has a fisher market well worth visiting.
The fish restaurants are well known, but make sure you visit a busy
restaurant, preferably with locals, so you know price and quality
are fine.
|
|
On
Fridays is the week market in the streets of old Garrucha. In summer
there is a very charming evening market every night on the
boulevard. In august there also the fair on the pier, which is open
till very late at night.
|
|
A
little bit farther down the coast you will find a charming village,
called Mojacar Playa. This little town has a lot of small
restaurants next to and on the beach. Especially at night there’s
a lot to do in Mojacar. There are a lot of shops of all kinds. Also
there’s a golf terrain in Mojacar.

Some
kilometres inland from Mojacar strip you will find the old
picturesque Mojacar village situated on a hilltop.

On
the terraces on this hilltop you will surely enjoy your cup of
coffee with a marvellous view over the coastline. On Sunday mornings
there’s a charming flea market at the square at the beginning of
the village and on Wednesdays there’s the large week market on the
soccer fields all the way on top off the hill.

For
daytrips one can make a visit to the Alhambra at Granada or the old
Roman remains in the city of Cartagena. Also Murcia and Almeria are
very beautiful city-trips. |

Nature
lovers may want to visit the national park of Cabo de Gata or one of
the other national parks in the region like Las Marias/ Los Velez
nearby Velez Rubio.
The
54,000-acre large natural park Sierra Maria-Los Velez, a natural
park since 1987, holds many surprises for the visitor, including a
rural lifestyle long disappeared from other parts of Spain.
Here,
goatherders wander the hills as they guard their flocks, families
bake their daily bread in the communal oven, and day-to-day business
is carried on at an unhurried pace. The nearby park, with its
landscape of mountains and pine forests, makes for excellent walking
and off-trail biking expeditions (see our activities page), aside
from harbouring a unique wildlife.
This
is one of the few places in southern Spain where you can spot
squirrels. It is also home to the threatened European tortoise
(testudo graeca), which is now being bred at a special centre in the
park to increase its numbers.
The
local countryside also boasts a large variety of wildlife including
foxes, wild boar, mountain cat and badgers, so if you are looking
for walking holidays in Spain you have come to
the right place.

Golden
eagles, snake eagles and eagle owls soar in the skies above the
house and other bird-life includes kestrel, vulgar, crossbill,
linnet, thekla lark, wood lark, and partridge, which makes for
excellent walks and days out in stunning, dramatic scenery.
The
area is home to the impressive Griffon vulture in an ambitious plan
to repopulate the sierras with these high-flying birds.
At
10 minutes from Velez Rubio you will find Velez Blanco. In Velez
Blanco stands a beautiful Moorish Fort from which you can overlook
the mountains and the national park.
In Velez Blanco are also various other historic monuments.
You can for example set out to see the wonderful petro
glyphs, where you can admirer the Indalo, which is now the symbol
for Almeria. The Indalo man appears on a sheltered rock face in the
mountains. Not far from where the Indalo was found is the Cueva de
los Letreros (the Cave of Symbols), a UNESCO world heritage site,
where drawings of witch doctors, warriors and game indicate that man
has called this land home since prehistory.
Children
will enjoy a day at the very close waterslide spark. After four pm
you get a reduced price.
Also
Mini-Hollywood in the desert nearby Tabernas will make an excellent
day trip for children. In the former film sets of the spaghetti
westerns they created a park which also holds a zoo and a swimming
pool.
A
more educational daytrip are the caves of Sorbas. Here you can make
short easy trips as well as the heavy duty climbing and crawling
trips where you will get wet…
Also
Lorca Castle and Terra Murcia (zoo with waterslide park) will make
the family happy.

|
There
are enough possibilities to enjoy the game of golf. If
you are interested let us
know and we will inform you further.
